There are a multitude of reasons to come.
1) This is one of the dopest parties of the week in NYC.
2) Hana May of Heart Mag is your host.
3) Dice The God, the LES watchdog, is also your host.
4) The first face you’ll see is the lovely Alexandra Estevez.
5) DJ Soul on the wheels all night.
6) I’m coming out of semi-DJ retirement to open for him from 11pm-1am. (ALL WAX! NO SERATO SET!)
7) We’re celebrating the release of our Staple x DJ Soul T-Shirt and mixtape, which can be seen here. COME THRU. REPRESENT CREW.
Here at Staple, we are obsessed by brands. Not just the buying of brands, but the business of brands, i.e., BRANDING. Pop Quiz: Since 2009, what brand or product has infused itself into pop culture most relevantly and most successfully? My answer: Beats By Dre. Think about it. “Beats” is only 3 years old! But it has managed to create an entirely new category. “Headphones” you say? No…headphones—as fashion. It’s pretty amazing when you think about it. Sure, they have the right marketing. Sure they have the celebrity endorsements. Sure they have all the best athletes rocking’ em. But if you take that all away, you still have a PRODUCT IS KING mentality that is second to none.
When Beats was founded in 2006, the newly formed company was aiming to make home speakers. Monster’s CEO Noel Lee insisted on producing headphones though — feeling that “the new speaker is the headphone.”
And as head honcho Dr. Dre put it: “People aren’t hearing all the music. Artists and producers work hard in the studio perfecting their sound. But people can’t really hear it with normal headphones. Most headphones can’t handle the bass, the detail, the dynamics. Bottom line, the music doesn’t move you. With Beats, people are going to hear what the artists hear, and listen to the music the way they should: The way I do.”
So….it’s with great honor that we are dropping these: The Staple x Beats By Dre Studio Headphones.
Everything you expect from a Beats: Monster® Headphone Cable, Extreme Comfort, Micro Minijack, Scratch-Resistant Matte Finish, Ready for iPhone®, Blackberry®, and Music Phones, Folding Design and Touring Case, Monster® Clean Cloth™, and for the first time, custom designed exterior packaging. The headphones themselves are a visual homage to our iconic NYC feathered friend—THE PIGEON.
500 pairs worldwide. $349.95 MSRP.
These will be available on 5/25/12 at the Beats Soho Store and here at Reed Space.
Peace to the entire Beats team for allowing this to happen!
As I’m sure you have heard by now, we have collaborated with Beats by Dre on a pair of exclusive Studio Headphones. Needless to say, they have been flying off the shelves much like a pigeon fleeing the coop. In addition to these one out of 500 Staple x Beats By Dre Studio Headphones, we have done a limited run of Staple x Beats by Dre New Era Fitteds and Tees. To get your hands on some gear to match the pigeon-ed out Studio Headphones, head down here to The Reed Space or order yours online today.
To celebrate the launch of or collaboration with Beats By Dre, we will be having a gathering at the Beats Soho Store on 5/24/12. DJ Soul on the wheels. Ciroc at the bar. Staple on your ears! We will be doing special pre-sales of the headphones at the event. And they will go on sale publicly 5/25/12 at Beats Soho and here Reed Space. See the post below for more details. There will also be a special edition Beats x Staple New Era Fitted Cap and T-Shirt available as well!
Last night, John Mayer graced us with an in-store appearance to promote his new album, Born and Raised. His fans were not phased at all by the rain and were still lining up as the sun went down. He managed to see every single one, happily autographing CDs, posters, T shirts, even guitars.
John Mayer merchandise will be available at Reed for the next week.
To celebrate the release of “Born and Raised,” the latest album from John Mayer, we are excited to announce the opening of a pop-up store here at Reed Space!
John Mayer will attend the store’s opening on Monday, May 21st and host a Meet and Greet from 7PM-9PM. Food and beverages will be provided at the opening event by Endless Summer Tacos and Vita Coco.
The Store will feature photography exhibited by Gari Lamar Askew II; photo prints (signed and hand-numbered), exclusive merchandise, and co-branded projects with Staple Design, Moleskine Notebooks, Reigning Champ, Barrett Alley, Incase and The North Face will be for sale.
Store opening: Monday, May 21st from 7-9pm.

This weekend, Adidas Consortium heats up the Reed Space…
“With the globe turning its focus on the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, we asked nine partners to take inspiration from their Olympic memories and translate them into designs for our new Consortium SS12 collection. We wiped the slate clean by giving them all-white models from the FW11 ‘Tabula Rasa’ range, which they’ve transformed into their own creative visions.
From Aloe Blacc’s transformation of the Decade Hi, to Sydney fashion designer Jim Thompson’s vintage track and field take on the Matchplay, Consortium SS12 is a diverse collection inspired by a range of creative backgrounds.”
