The New York Yankees had their playoff hopes crushed by the Houston Astros in a 3-0 shutout. The day after news broke that Yankee-ace CC Sabathia was checking into rehab, a struggling Masahiro Tanaka failed to hold off a resilient Houston team in the ALWC game–not to mention A-Rod struck out twice in an 0 for 4 outing. It looks like there won’t be a repeat of the 2000 World Series after all. But, the champagne continues to pour for the Queens-faithful.
The Mets have solidified themselves as the best team in New York this year, but they’re not done yet. Terry Collins and the NL-East Champions will take the field at Dodger Stadium on Friday with the hopes of making a push for the World Series. There is hope yet for the Mets to achieve this feat with their first playoff appearance since 2006. Still, the question remains, how far will the Mets go? With the great pitching of Zach Greinke and 3-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw, it looks like Amazins’ may have their work cut out for them.
